Prizes were won by: 1st John Daniels, 2nd Isobel Ough, 3rd Paul Jagoe, 4th Sue Parker, 5th Colleen Oakley-Brown.

The group are very fortunate to have some very generous donors, and thank them for their support.

The group also thanked treasurer Garry for his work on the Stroke Week stall and the Christmas lunch.

The group has had a successful year with several new members joining.

The group is having membership drive in 2017.

The group continue to have exercises with Joanne once a month, and that always gives a laugh.

The groups’ motto is fellowship, friendship and laughter. Having a disability it doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy life.

The group will meet at Community House in 2017 and thank the staff there for always making them welcome.

The first meeting will be held on February 14 from 1pm until 3pm.

Baw Baw Region Arthritis Support Group

The group have been working card exercising under its leaders and now have four more leaders trained under Move Victoria.

Different routines from leaders have challenged memory and movement skills.

The group had some good social activities in November. They included viewing the Christmas display at Gifts and Glamour in Drouin and coffee afterwards at Lucianos.

Unfortunately the picnic had to be moved to lunch because of bad weather but all had a happy time.

The group enjoyed the Christmas Party luncheon at Traralgon Winery on December 9. Group members will be relaxing in the hydrotherapy pool today.

The final exercise group is on Monday. To keep moving and fit the group will resume on Friday, January 6.

The group meet at the Uniting Church hall, 210 Sutton St Warragul on Mondays and Fridays from 12.45pm until 2.30pm and finish with a friendly cuppa.

People who would like to contact the group can phone president Bev on 0435 554 747 or vice president Madeleine on 0410 353 339.

The group appreciate its committee and the work put in during 2016.

The group wish all happy safe holidays and Christmas blessings.

Drouin Library Book Group

This year’s final meeting of the Drouin Library Book Group opened with the review of Jeffrey Archer’s latest book This Was a Man, being the captivating final instalment of the Clifton Chronicles, a family saga spanning generations.

The Secret Pulse of Time (Making Sense of Life’s Scarcest Commodity) by Stefan Klein, a German physicist and author, is a fascinating subject in its own right. Klein looks at time from different angles, but his main focus is on how we perceive it and how these perceptions influence our lives.

Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand by Helen Simonson is an optimistic comedy of manners set in the small village of Edgecombe St. Mary in the English countryside. It portrays a retired army Major, a wry, courtly, opinionated yet completely endearing Englishmen who clings to his time-honoured values.

A Man Called Over by Swedish writer Fredrik Beckman is a story about another interesting male character, a widowed, grumpy yet endearing old man with staunch principles, fixed routines and a short fuse. His routine is shaken when new neighbours move in.

The Road to Ruin by Niki Savva is a book about Tony Abbott and Peta Credlin, and attempts to cast some light on how the dynamic duo, so successful in opposition, proved to be deadly in government.

The Sound of Things Falling by Juan Gabriel Vasquez is a political thriller exploring the Columbian drug trade and the fear and violence within a society taken over by drug lords. The novel explores the question of what makes a life fall apart at the seams, what can be done to fix it and the complex relationships between memory and trauma.

The Art of Illumination by Patricia Carter is not a book to “read” but rather one to enjoy browsing through. It provides detailed step by step instructions and materials for making your own illuminated lettering and artwork.

The next Book Group meeting will be held at Drouin Library on Thursday, January 19 2017.
