Warragul wins thriller
Warragul Bowling Club had a fairly good day in round eight of WGBD pennant on Saturday with three teams winning and two losing.
Division one had another narrow win, this time by one shot against Traralgon RSL with two teams up and two down, while division two had a fantastic 32-shot win against Garfield with all teams up.
Division three had a disastrous 61-shot loss against Traralgon, division five defeated RSL by 32 shots with all teams up and division six loss by 27 shots to Yallourn.

In round nine of pennant next Saturday Warragul one is home to Morwell Club, Warragul two is away to Yallourn 2, Warragul three is home to Trafalgar 2, Warragul four is away to Yallourn 4 and Warragul five is home to Trafalgar 3.
Championship singles
The finals of the men’s and women’s singles were played on Sunday in front of a very large crowd of spectators.
Gary Johnson played Terry Sullivan and Shirley Melsen played Elsie Hefford in the respective finals.
To get to the final Gary defeated Peter Gallasch, Ian Belling, Bob Currie and Clive Padgham, while Terry defeated David Smith, David Alderman, Necip Akarsu and Graeme Davis.
Elsie had a first round bye then defeated Jean Kydd and Gabrielle Draisma, while Shirley defeated Gwenda Mason, Janette Gallasch and Kerrie Currie.
The men’s final was even early then Terry won seven of the next nine ends (including a four) to lead 12/6 after 12.
Meanwhile on rink four scores were level after four ends before Elsie shot away to lead 16/6 after 11 ends.
Shirley fought back with six of the next eight shots to trail 12/18.
Back to rink two and Gary picked up a four on the 13th end to make it 10/12, then in a seesaw next seven ends Terry was in front 17/14 after 20 ends.
Elsie got two then Shirley got three and two for a 17/20 score line. Elsie got to 24 then Shirley advanced to 21, but Elsie won the next end to claim the championship.
The men’s event was hotting up and Gary got on a roll to win ends 21 to 28 to take a commanding 24/17 lead.
Terry wasn’t bowling badly, but Gary was drawing and converting better. But against the run of play, as often happens in singles, Terry knuckled down and won the last four ends to win the championship 25/24.
All four finalists were worthy contenders. Congratulations to Terry Sullivan and Elsie Hefford.
