Work to begin at Hastings

-

A large retail complex is to be built on Warragul’s southern entrance with work to start as soon as Baw Baw Shire planning approval is received.

BFN Developments has lodged plans with the shire for the $4.85 million six showroom development on a site at the corner of Burke and Howitt Sts.

Principal of the company Brett Neilson said he was “ready to go” as soon as approval was received and that there had been plenty of interest from potential tenants.

The restricted retail development of contemporary commercial design will be for what is generally termed “bulky goods” businesses such as automotive parts, camping, light fittings, floor and window coverings, furniture and household appliances.

Five of the showrooms will be in one large building with a sixth in a smaller detached building.

There will also be ancillary food and drink premises.

Floor spaces of the showrooms will range from 702 to 994 square metres and include offices, amenities and designated delivery bays.

A total of 138 off street car parking spaces will be provided including 10 disabled car parks.

The complex will be accessed from Burke St via two new driveway crossovers.

A new footpath will be built along the entire Burke St frontage to connect with the existing footpath in Howitt St.

Now vacant buildings on the site previously occupied by Hastings Timber and Hardware and Warragul Marine will be demolished.

The retail development will be the third major construction in Warragul by the Traralgon headquartered company in the past three years.

It will follow BFN’s own $18-million Newmason office, commercial and residential building in the central town area and the recently completed $27-million 120-bed Abbey Gardens Aged Care facility in Tarwin St for the Allian Care Services Group.
