Council lets tenders for road and bridge works

Tenders worth $2.5 million for various road works projects and a $300,000 bridge upgrade have been awarded by Baw Baw Shire.

Council accepted a number of tenders for roadworks packages at its meeting last week.

The works will include road resealing, major pavement repairs and road reconstruction.

A tender also was awarded for construction of a new bridge over Bull Swamp Creek.

The four tenders were considered by council during in-committee but the decisions were released to the public.

The road resealing contract, valued at $778,873 was awarded to Fulton Hogan Industries.

Council also agreed that the $221,126 balance of the road resealing budget remain available to be used as appropriate for the annual road resealing program.

The road resealing works will be undertaken on 17 local roads, covering 35km.

Roads to be resealed include: Balfour Rd and River Connection Rd (Willow Grove), Cemetery Rd and Sunny Creek Rd (Trafalgar), Christies Rd (Warragul North), Cook Rd and Fairway Drv (Drouin), Fishers Rd and Labertouche Rd (Labertouche), Gardner and Holman Rd (Drouin South), North Jindivick Rd, Old Telegraph Rd, Palmer Rd and Old Main Jindivick Rd (Jindivick), Old Drouin Rd (Drouin South), Old Sale Rd (Buln Buln East) and Old Sale Rd (Brandy Creek).

Quality Roads was awarded the contract for major pavement repairs at a cost of $779,170.

The tender includes pavement repairs of about 43,000 square metres of roads surface on six roads north of the Princes Hwy.

Works within this package are to be completed between January and March 2017. The works include: Buln Buln Rd, Drouin (14 locations between Viking Street and Lardners Track);

Copelands Rd, Warragul (nine locations between Sutton St and Lillico Rd);

Jindivick-Neerim South Rd, Neerim South to Jindivick (18 locations between Main Neerim Rd and Jacksons Trk);

Lillico Rd, Warragul (five locations between Brandy Creek Rd and Christies Rd);

Nilma Shady Creek Rd, Nilma (21 locations between Bloomfield Rd and Darnum Shady Creek Rd); and,

Stuhrs Rd, Nilma (intersection with Nilma Shady Creek Rd).

Road reconstruction works valued at $932,579 also will be undertaken by Quality Roads.

Council also awarded a tender for works associated with the reconstruction of a bridge over Bull Swamp Creek at Bona Vista Rd.

The tender was awarded to Hourigan and Walsh Pty Ltd for the sum of $306,098.
