Call for all day parking

-

Hundreds of Drouin residents have called for all day car parking in Young St.

Three petitions were tabled with Baw Baw Shire last week, all calling in council to address parking in Young St.

One of the petitions, tabled by Cr Jess O’Donnell, was signed by 357 people.

The petition stated parking at the skate park can be confronting with the anti-social behaviour of some patrons at night and damage caused to cars.

“Since the council office was built, council workers park in the parking closest to the council office making very few parks available.

“Not only is there insufficient parking for shop workers but also for the public wanting to park and use the skate park, not to mention when the farmers market is on.

“Until the new parking inspector started booking people, for the past two years the local shop owners had been under the opinion/told that we could park in that area from a previous inspector due to understanding our complaints.

“Thus for the past two years shop workers parking in the car park using it as all day parking did not affect or cause problems,” the petition said.

Two separate petitions also were tabled by Cr O’Donnell, also calling on council to address all day parking issues in Young St, Drouin.

The two petitions, both worded the same, state the sign is damaged and for the past two years it had been all day parking in Young St.

“It is not safe for us to park in un-lighted and reserved, unsafe areas. Help keep Drouin safe.”

The two petitions contained a total of 1467 signatures.

Council received all three petitions and asked officers to prepare a report for council consideration.
