Susan’s prickly issue

-

A Warragul woman baring the scratches from a blackberry cane in a public garden is frustrated that nobody has taken responsibility for the overgrown weed.

Susan Courtis was leaving Warragul Coles on Wednesday, walking along the car park edge adjacent to a garden bed when she became hooked up by a long, prickly blackberry cane.

The blackberry was overgrown and protruding from the garden bed beneath the pedestrian ramp.

Ms Courtis said she became hooked up in the blackberry which scratched her and drew blood in several spots along her forearm.

She said it was a strong cane that could have seriously injured a child at a lower height, particularly if it poked them in the eye.

Trying to find someone to take ownership of the blackberry so it can be removed has not been an easy task.

Ms Courtis said she was initially told it was a Baw Baw Shire car park so she attended at the Warragul council office to lodge a complaint.

After a few rounds of questions among the customer service staff, she said someone admitted it was a shire car park and a customer complaint would be filed.

However, Ms Courtis contacted The Gazette and further investigations revealed it was a private car park and garden bed, not council owned.

Ms Courtis then contacted Coles to lodge a complaint but was told the responsible owner was Centrepoint management.

“I am just disappointed that everyone has been passing the back, this could really hurt someone. “Is it that hard to cut it off,” she said. Ms Courtis was unable to find contact details for Centrepoint management to take the matter further.
