Longwarry win on a wintry day

On a chilly, windy afternoon at Longwarry Bowling Club, Division 3 had a convincing 55-shot win over Boolarra and Division 6 just went down to Yallourn by nine shots.

Division 3: Longwarry 18/123 defeated Boolarra 2/68.

Graham Sparks, Elio Meggetto, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated R Peter’s team 36/12. Longwarry were strengthen­ed by the inclusion of twinkle toes “Sparks” and with Kenneth Towt on fire, got off to a fantastic start and never looked back to record a 12-shot win.

Simon Counsel, Kevin Campbell, Gerrard Hogg and Hank Metselaar (skip) defeated T. Parker’s team 33/16. After the sixth end, Longwarry hit the lead and never looked back. With some exceptiona­l bowling from Kevin and the Hogg back to his best, Longwarry had a convincing 17-shot win.

Mark Serong, Grant Pask, Judy Eastwell and Slim Eastwell (skip) lost to S Peter’s team 18/29. Longwarry had a nine-shot lead by end 15 and after that failed to play as a team and follow skip’s orders to go down by 11 shots.

Ian Peterson, Lloyd Maisey, Ken White and Russell White (skip) defeated B Allen’s team 36/11 (king rink). The game was set up by the lead Ian who bowled exceptiona­lly well. If he missed, the rest of the team chimed in. Hogg’s weekly award went to Ian Peterson. Division 6: Longwarry 0/38 lost to Yallourn 10/47.

Peter Smethurst, John Watts, Eric Peterson and Rob Purvis (skip) lost to R Dixon’s team 19/22 after a tightly contested game.

Don Collis, Ron Sutton, Gerry Wakefield and Brian Mason (skip) lost to K Evan’s team 19/25. In another tightly contested game Yallourn played the windy conditions slightly better.

Club Champion

Congratula­tions to Barry White who on Sunday defeated Slim Eastwell 25/23 in a terrific game of bowls to become Longwarry Club Champion.
