Garfield comes home strongly
Division 2: Garfield Yallourn 106/88.
Tom Cleary (skip), Shane Oliver, Ron Saunders and Les Pumphreys won 26/20.
In a hard-fought game, the teams were level at 8/8 on the 11th end. Garfield got a seven on the 12th to be up 15/8 then lost the next three ends to trail 15/16 on the 15th. The teams were level three times from there but Garfield won the last two ends.
Peter Lieshout (skip), Bob Clarke, Jim Power and Rod James won 27/24.
Garfield won the first end but Yallourn won the next five to lead 8/2 on the sixth and 17/8 on the 12th. Garfield fought back and lost only three ends from there.
Steve Whyte (skip), Alan White, Jack Lee and Graeme Burton won 31/20.
Garfield led 10/2 on the fifth and went to smoko at 17/9 and only lost five ends from there.
Steve Bassed (skip), Gary Payne, Ray Biffin and Stu Gemmill lost to R. Mellow’s team.
Garfield led 6/2 on the third and scores were level twice before smoko and twice more on the run home with defeated Garfield just going down in a good hard-fought game.
Division 5: Garfield lost to Yinnar 56/62 with two wins and one loss.
Wes Goodman (skip), Gordon Moxey, Cliff Stephens and Frank Prins won 26/16.
Wes Goodman’s team started well up 7/2 on the 6th and still up 10/7 at smoko but Yinnar won next few ends to be up 13/10 on the 14th close game with teams level at 15all on the 20th but Garfield won four of the next five to draw away for a good win.
Bob Lamport (skip), Don Knight, Pete Smith and Rod Hackett lost to G. Osborne’s team 12/23.
Scores were level on the fourth and ninth but Garfield lost six shots in three ends to trail 6/11 on the 13th. They picked up a few ends after smoko but lost to the better team.
Damian Brick (skip), Adrian Helmuth, Lex Taylor and Bob Hope won 23/17.
Scores were level four times before Garfield got four shots to take the lead 14/10 on the 16th. Yinnar fought back and scores were level at 17/17 on the 22nd end but Garfield won the next three ends.
Division 6: Garfield defeated Thorpdale 50/44 with one win and one loss.
Judy Pocklington (skip), Pat Marriott, Jan Johnson and Keith Sainsbery won 30/18.
Scores were level on the second and the fourth but Garfield drew away and went in at the break leading 10/7. They won five of the first six ends after the break to be up 17/10 on the 17th. Thorpdale got within four shots but Garfield got 10 shots in two ends to lead 27/13 on the 21st and went on for a great win.
Maureen Lamport (skip), Maureen McMillan, Bev Sainsbery and Phil Humphreys lost to G. Savage’s team 20/26.
Garfield trailed 8/11 on the 10th. Thorpdale won five of the first six ends after smoko to lead 24/11 on the 18th. Garfield won six of the last seven ends but they lost to a better team.
Phil Humphreys led well and thanks to Drouin for the loan of their player Maureen McMillan, who played very well for Garfield.
