Ellinbank continue fantastic form Division 3

Ellinbank (8-284) def. Iona (154):

Ellinbank continued their fantastic form in division three with a thumping 130-run win over Iona in their round eight clash – with several batsmen taking the chance to enjoy some valuable time in the middle.

In pursuit of just 154, the Bankers were never in trouble following a 72-run opening stand between Chris Pallot and Nathan Van Steensel, with the pair making 38 and 35 respectively.

Mick Taylor was able to remove them and was by far the pick of the bowlers (snaring 3-41 from his 20 overs) but his teammates could do little to help him.

Michael Masterson (52*) and Jeremy Gray (45) were both effective in the middle order, and Tom Robertson made 39 as Ellinbank made their way to 8-284 by stumps.

Warriors snatch win

Western Park (7-293) Buln (285):

In a high-scoring contest, Western Park have snatched an eight-run win over Buln Buln, with Sam Reid’s late lusty hitting not quite enough to take the Lyrebirds over the line. def.

In pursuit of a massive target of 293, Buln began aggressively on the back of Ben O’Neill’s boundary hitting and despite losing two early wickets the run-rate rose early and stayed high for the duration of the innings.

O’Neill made the most of some early missed chances to punish the Warriors to the tune of 101 runs – although due to some confusion in the scorebooks when he was dismissed he hadn’t yet celebrated his century.

His dismissal was a turning point in the game, and in the end the weight of runs was just too much for Buln to overcome.

Angus Emery (3-58) was the pick of the bowlers, while Alex Gavin and Rod Breeden chipped in with two scalps each.

Jindi miss outright

Jindivick (133) def. Yarragon (70 and 3-72):

Having already secured first innings points last weekend the only question was whether Jindivick could push for an outright victory over Yarragon.

However, the Jumping Jacks were never in the hunt for that particular feat, following a disappointing day two batting performance.

Resuming at 3-84, Jindivick could only push onto 133 before being dismissed, as Yarragon’s bowlers went some way towards atoning for the sins of their batsmen.

Zac Regester claimed 4-25 and Oliver Watt 3-13 to lead the way with the ball as they triggered a collapse of 7-24 to bundle out Jindivick.

Batting for a second time, the Panthers finished the day at 3-72, with Ashley Smith making a handy 27 opening up.

Crows improve

Longwarry Drouin (134):

Longwarry showed vast improvement on their previous batting performances this summer to take out a big 38-run upset win over Drouin, with the Crows successfully chasing down 134.

Their batsmen overcame a disciplined bowling performance from the likes of Jack Lucas (who captured 440 from his 14 overs) and Sam Romari (who claimed 2-38 from nine).

They were aided by a whopping 32 extras sent down by the Hawks, and Drouin will no doubt rue those extra runs.

Nonetheless, Longwarry were able to make their way to 9-172 before the end of play, the win putting a halt to some promising performances of late by Drouin. (9-172) def.
