Bunyip 6/259 (cc) def. Buln Buln 10/192 Bunyip stalwart and Warragul District Cricket Associatio­n outstandin­g service award recipient Ian McConnell had a truly memorable day at the weekend, making an incredible 160 runs with the bat before snaring four wickets.

Opening the batting for the Bulls, McConnell showed equal amounts of patience (batting throughout most of the innings) and firepower (27 boundaries) as he dominated the scoring in Bunyip’s hefty total of 259.

Tyler Constantin­e and Alex McMillan (25) provided valuable support to McConnell, sharing 72-run partnershi­ps for the third and fifth wickets respective­ly.

Anthony Haddrick (two fours and two sixes) gave a late boost to the run rate to finish with 21 not out.

Rob Park was the best of the bowlers with 2/51.

In reply the Lyrebirds lost a couple of early wickets, including that of danger man John Rowe.

Sean Symes (36) and Matthew Burdett (65) steadied the ship but their efforts went unrewarded as the remainder of the line-up failed to fire.

Steven Breeden and Thomas Park (both with 22) fought hard to keep the contest alive but the home side finished the day well short of the target all out for 192.

Pick of the bowlers was man of the match ‘Biscuit’ McConnell with 4/22 off six overs and Arthur Begg chipping in with 2/37.

Stags cruise

Neerim District 6/201 def. Hallora 9/193 (cc)

Neerim District and Hallora also squared off in a one-day contest with Neerim taking home a comfortabl­e win.

After being sent in by the home side Hallora got away to a sluggish start with the score at one point reading 4/66.

Brian McDonald (62) and Barry Heywood then combined to add 91 to give the Kangas back some control.

Heywood carried his bat to finish not out on 60, helping his side to a competitiv­e
