Artists inspire kids

-

Free hands-on art workshops for kids will be held at the Trafalgar Railway Station Artspaces next week. Inspired by the National Gallery of Victoria’s summer exhibitions, children and families can create John Olsen style drawings or paintings and Viktor and Rolf style paper fashion accessories.

NGV Kids on Tour is being held at nearly 40 locations across Victoria, with Baw Baw Arts Alliance presenting the Trafalgar workshops on Monday, January 16 and Tuesday, January 17.

Children and their families can drop in from 10am to 12noon and 1pm to 3pm.

This is a wonderful opportunity for children from four-years-old to be introduced to the world of great artists led by experienced art teachers part of the Baw Baw Arts Alliance.

Local ceramicist Jessie McLennan and textile artist Prue Barridge will lead the activities.

Activities related to celebrated artist John Olsen will take place on Monday.

For more than 50 years, Olsen’s paintings and drawings of the Australian landscape and wildlife have inspired reflection on the beauty and wonder of the world around us.

Using a partly drawn image by Olsen, children can imagine what the lines and shapes could be to form their own unique collaboration with the artist.

Tuesday’s workshop is inspired by Viktor and Rolf’s couture fashion of bows, collars and elaborate ruffles.

Children will use a variety of materials, including white strands of raffia and crepe paper, to make bespoke fashion accessories. In a self-guided activity, children can fill in a book with their own creative fashion designs.
