Mysterious plants thefts

-

Trafalgar Police are investigating ongoing thefts of plants in Baw Baw Shire maintained garden beds.

Police said small flowering plants valued at more than $200 were recently stolen from garden beds adjacent to the Princes Hwy.

Police said this was an ongoing issue that had been occurring for some years.

For the past four to five years, offenders have stolen various small flowering plants from recently planted garden beds in the central business district and along the highway median strips.

The garden beds are at the intersection of McCrorey St and the Princes Hwy (south side), as well as two garden beds on the north side – one underneath the Victory Park sign and the other closer to the barbecue shelter.

Police said it appeared the offender waited until the plants start to flower and then removes them.

The incidents occur twice a year after Baw Baw Shire re-plants the garden beds in winter and summer.

Anyone with information that will assist investigations should contact Trafalgar Police.

In an unrelated incident, Warragul Police are investigating the theft of two cycad plants valued at $200 from outside a Warragul business last week.

The theft occurred overnight on Tuesday night from Albert St Sports and Spinal Injury Centre in Albert St.
