Stick to solar facts
In his letter headed “Appeasing the gullible” (Gazette December 6, 2016), Marc Schellekens commences with – “People like Mr Evans understand…” and “solar and wind energy enthusiasts like Mr Evans believe…”
None of which was relevant to my original point, but all of which qualified as baseless assumption.
You stick to writing what you think Mr Schellekens and I’ll speak for myself.
One thing I do understand is this, like many others who showed a bit of foresight, I found that installing rooftop solar panels a few years ago resulted in greatly reduced electricity bills; some people actually pay zero or are in credit.
The (alleged) 10am to 2pm viability of solar panels as reported by Mr Schellekens is a highly contestable claim but the fact is Australia has one of the highest uptakes of rooftop solar in the world because of the savings involved; nothing remotely connected with gullibility.
Rooftop solar storage batteries will soon become more affordable and efficient and will be adopted by many who will then leave the grid altogether.
Thus leaving the devotees of Old King Coal to continue complaining about the ever increasing cost of electricity.
Too bad that fact based discussion seems to be increasingly out of favour, in this, the posttruth era. John Evans, Warragul
