Fire messages improved
Fire danger period signage across Baw Baw Shire has been upgraded to ensure consistency of messaging regarding local area updates and restriction warnings that apply in the shire during the declared Fire Danger Period.
The signage upgrade project has been ongoing since October 2015 with new signage erected in 20 locations across the municipality including, Warragul, Drouin, Erica, Neerim South, Trafalgar, Yarragon. Another three signs will be erected in coming weeks in Trida, Neerim East and Longwarry.
Baw Baw Shire mayor Joe Gauci said the new signage was the new signs have been placed in strategic locations, predominantly in high traffic areas and on approach to rural towns.
“The signs display important messaging that is relevant to all residents during the declared Fire Danger Period.
“Additionally, the new signs are an important tool to communicate with tourists and visitors that come to the area who may not be aware of the fire restrictions in force within the shire.
“The old signs were outdated and inconsistent. The new signage is another example of Council’s commitment to community information and safety; especially in the warmer months when bushfire risk is heightened.”
The signs are managed by local CFA brigades, and are in operation for the duration of the declared fire danger period.
