Friends through books

-

Residents of Lyrebrid Village Drouin helped Ripplebrook Primary School’s reading program during 2016, making fortnightly visits to the school.

Friendships formed quickly between the residents and students resulting in laughter, chatter, words of encouragement and great reading.

Before the end of term 10 students represented the school in a visit to Lyrebird Village.

Students and residents enjoyed a tour of Lyrebird Village which was cleverly disguised as a scavenger hunt organised by the Village’s lifestyle staff member Carolyn Pugh.

As a grand finale to the visit, grade six student Indy Murray led the united gathering with an enthusiastic rendition of Ripplebrook Primary School’s Words of Self Belief followed by a harmonious “We Wish you a Merry Christmas”.

The day ended with promises of continued friendship and support in the coming year.

Punctuality of V/Line train services for Gippsland in November was the worst since major disruptions and cancellations due to wheel wear on trains and level crossing boom gate problems early in the year.

One of five services on the Gippsland line did not meet arrival targets of within six minutes of scheduled times when travelling between Traralgon and Melbourne and 11 minutes for the Gippsland trains to and from Bairnsdale.

Performance figures for November published by Public Transport Victoria show only 80.1 per cent of MelbourneTraralgon passenger trains arrived within the six-minute allowance and it was a similar percentage for the Gippslander services in meeting their target times.

The punctuality rating was a sharp drop from the 87.8, 87.3 and 85.2 per cent results for the previous three months on Traralgon-Melbourne services.

PTV’s target is to have 92 per cent of services run punctually.
