Want the job? Get the skills at CCG
Students at Community College Gippsland’s Hair and Beauty School have excelled at the annual CCG Hair and Beauty competition.
Program Leader, Julie Welch, said the results were stunning with Hairdressing and Beauty students working in pairs to create their individual Spring racing look.
“The quality of the student work has been exceptional and a large part of their skill development is the opportunity students have to build real skills with real clients throughout their training.
“This year, Community College Gippsland introduced Community Pamper days where students were involved in providing hair and beauty services to community groups such as aged care facilities, women’s farm groups and people living with a disability.”
Julie Welch said CCG would be increasing the number of Pamper Days and Wellness sessions it offered to community groups and Corporate Businesses in 2017.
“We found the program beneficial to the students and to the clients who enjoyed the experience of being pampered and feeling good about themselves.”
Hairdressing student Jane Tapner and Beauty student Haylie Petho said it was a great way to learn and work with clients of all ages.
“We get to work with real clients who visit the training salons on campus so we get a lot of practice working with different people,” said Jane.
Haylie said the course had opened the door for her career. She is now working at a local beauty salon as a result of her work placement experience.
Community College Gippsland operates the Hair and Beauty School at its Warragul and Leongatha campuses and offers Certificate courses in Hair and Beauty as well as a Diploma in Beauty Therapy and short courses. It also provides training to apprentices in the workplace.
