Wild Dog juniors into final

-

Both Warragul and District junior Gippsland Cricket League teams will play off in the final on February 12.

The under 18 team qualified for the final after scoring a comfortable win over Central Gippsland in the final round on Sunday.

They will meet the undefeated SaleMaffra in the final.

Needing victory in the T20 match to progress to the final, Bailey George (75 from 59 balls) and Kim Drew (60 from 39 balls) set the tone for a big total with a 110-run partnership for the first wicket.

Joel Mitchell threatened in reply, smashing 68 from just 25 balls, but found little support as Central Gippsland finished short on 9/168.

Gerard Shields picked up 3/30 from his three overs, while Sean Masterson sent down two overs for 2/8, including the big wicket of Mitchell.

Other wicket takers were Davis McConnell, Drew, Joel Batson and Charlie Wans.

Earlier, Warragul and District defeated Leongatha in another T20 contest.

Drew top scored with 24 while Wilson McGilivray scored 22 as the Wild Dogs struggled to 9/127.

Only Leongatha captain Tim Sauvarin could get going in reply, scoring 24 from 20 balls as the Wild Dogs restricted Leongatha to 103.

Masterson picked up three wickets while McConnell claimed two. Drew, Batson and Harry Wans each picked up one wicket.

Warragul and District will meet Leongatha and District in the under 16 final.
