Dragons into State League

-

The Drouin Dragons Soccer Club have been accepted into the Football Federation Victoria State League 5 competition, where they will field both senior men’s and reserves teams in 2017.

DDSC president Daniel Brown said the club were highly appreciative to be accepted into the FFV State League 5 for 2017.

“Our Club was established in 1975 and in recent years been very successful both on and off the pitch,” he said.

“To continue our growth the committee, coaches and players will strive to be successful in the new direction that our club is taking.

“It’s a great opportunity for our players and the future of the Drouin Dragons Soccer Club.”

The club have been successful in recent years, often fielding senior and junior teams in the South Gippsland division finals in the Gippsland Soccer League.

The DDSC executive and committee voted in favour of a move to State League in November and appointed Mark Wood senior coach in late December to lead the teams into the State League.

The Club received endorsement from the South Gippsland Soccer League and the Baw Baw Shire recently to field teams in the State League with games scheduled on a Saturday afternoon.

“This opportunity will provide a pathway for our senior players and our next generation of junior players from Gippsland into Melbourne,” Brown said.

“Just as importantly, we will continue to support and field strong teams into the South Gippsland Soccer League as we have done in the past.”

With the population of Drouin increasing and its proximity to the south-east corridor of Melbourne, Brown said the club is positioned well and is sure to attract players from Gippsland that are keen to get a foot into Melbourne.

Drouin Dragons Soccer Club are also fortunate enough to have the use of five full size pitches for training and game days. Major pitch works took place over the past two years with drainage and irrigation from recycled water, which provides a playing surface to be used year-round.

Major works to upgrade change rooms were approved prior to Christmas with work to commence this year.

The new change rooms have been funded by the state government with a $100,000 grant, Baw Baw Shire grant and club fundraising. The change rooms will consist of amenities for both men and women.

An information night and meet and greet will be held tonight at 6pm at the clubrooms in Drouin with training to commence the week after.
