Garfield gain wins
Garfield had two wins on Saturday.
Division two: Garfield defeated Yallourn 89/74.
Garfield was at home with three wins and one loss to Yallourn.
Steve Bassed’s team was up by two on the fifth. They lost the next five ends to be down 4/13 before picking up two shots to be 6/14 at the break.
Garfield started back strongly, winning six of the first seven ends to be up 16/15. They lost the next three but drew level on the second last end. On the last, Garfield got up by a shot to win 20/19.
Steve Whyte’s team started well, up 8/2 on the sixth. Yallourn got back within a shot but Garfield drew away to be up 14/7 at the break.
Yallourn was within four on the 16th, but Garfield won all but two of the remaining ends for a 30/13 win.
Peter Lieshout’s team was down early but got within one on the 10th. The teams went end for end with Garfield down 8/11 at the break.
What followed was scores level three times. Yallourn got a four on the 20th and Garfield picked up three, but Yallourn won two of the last three ends to finish winners 24/20.
Alan White’s team lost the first end but won nine of the next 11 to be up 12/4.
In a tight game, Garfield was still up 16/8 on the 18th before Yallourn got within three shots on the 22nd. Garfield got a helpful two on the 23rd, as Yallourn won the last two ends, to hold on and win 19/18.
Well played to Alan White who was skip for the first time since joining the club. Results: Steve Bassed (skip), Ray Biffin, Les Pumphrey and Stu Gemmill won 20/19. Steve Whyte (skip), Jack Lee, Gary Helemore and Graeme Burton won 30/13. Peter Leishout (skip), Jim Power, Frank Prins and Jim Boucher lost 20/24. Alan White (skip), Gary Payne, Ron Saunders and Adrian Helmuth won 19/18.
Division five: Garfield defeated Moe 71/63.
Garfield went to Moe and had two wins and a loss.
Wes Goodman’s team was down 0/6 on the fourth but improved to be down 5/7 on the seventh. Moe only lost one of next six to be up 15/7 on the 15th. Garfield rallied again to be down by six on the 20th and won the following four ends to be level at 21-all. Garfield had some good bowls in the head on the last end but Moe got in to win 21/22.
Damian Brick’s team was up early before scores were levelled. They were up by two at the break.
Garfield was still up 18/11 on the 16th and 25/17 on the 22nd. They lost a five on the 23rd but held on to win by one shot, 25/24.
Bob Lamport’s team was down 1/8 on the sixth. They only lost one of the remaining ends before the break to be 12/9.
Teams won six ends each but Moe only got single shots and Garfield won 25/17. Results: Wes Goodman (skip), Judy Pocklington, Jill Rouse and Lex Taylor lost 21/22. Damian Brick (skip), Gordon Moxey, Phil Humphreys and Bob Hope won 25/24. Bob Lamport (skip), Don Knight, Maureen Lamport and Rod Hackett won 25/17.
