Close contests for Longwarry
Longwarry’s division three travelled to Yinnar on Saturday and went down by two shots in very tough conditions.
In division six, Longwarry travelled to Trafalgar and, in another close game, came home with a five-shot win. Division three: Longwarry lost to Yinnar 91/93. Simon Counsel, Kevin Campbell, Hogg Mitchell and Hank Metselaar (skip) were defeated by M. Delahaye’s team 16/25. Longwarry lost seven shots on the first two ends and couldn’t make up the deficit, going down by nine shots.
Ian Peterson, Judy Eastwell, Brian Hennessey and Slim Eastwell (skip) defeated T. Shore’s team 22/20. In a very even game, Longwarry held off Yinnar to get home by two shots.
Mark Serong, Lloyd Maisey, Ken White and Russell White (skip) were defeated by T. Roche’s team 25/27. In another very close game, Yinnar held of the fast finishing Longwarry - who picked up a six on the final end to get home by two shots.
Glenn Pask, Elio Meggetto, Kenneth Towt and Barry White (skip) defeated W. Harris’ team 28/21. Longwarry got off to a good start to lead 10/2 after six ends. The game was an even contest after that, Longwarry winning by seven shots. Division six: Longwarry defeated Trafalgar 45/40. Don Collis, Peter Smethurst, John Watts and Eric Peterson (skip) were defeated by G. Burt’s team 15/28. Longwarry started poorly to be down 0/11 on end five, but came back to be within four shots on end 19. They fell away on the final ends to go down by 13 shots.
Reg Dunn, Sharon Twite, Gerry Wakefield and Brian Mason (skip) defeated N. Moreland’s team 30/12.
After going into the tea break at nine-all, the young Longwarry team led by Reg Dunn came out and played some very good bowls to finish 18-shot winners.
Wayne Hurst of Trafalgar bowls in hot conditions against Drouin on Saturday. Drouin won the division three contest 20/121 to 0/67.
