Titans snatch unlikely win over Western Park

-

For once it wasn’t Harry Moore or Steve Dillon who dominated the bowlers, with Boswell and Smith combining for an opening stand of 91 that well and truly took the impetus away from the Hawks’ bowlers.

From that position of strength the remaining Jumping Jacks batsmen continued to attack the bowlers, with Rory Payne (43), Shannon Mitchell (38) and Luke Bartlett (28 not out) all enjoying their time in the middle.

Although Paul Timewell (who snared 3-65) and Julian Wainwright (who finished with 5-63 from just 9.5 overs) did their best to peg back the scoring through the taking of wickets there was little that Drouin could do to stop the flow of runs and Jindivick comfortably made their way through to 318 before being dismissed in the 67th over.

The win serves as another reminder of Jindivick’s strength as they head into the final few days of play before finals.

Gulls outclassed

Bunyip (9-283) def. Warragul (123): As expected, Bunyip’s total of 9-283 made last weekend was far too much for Warragul to chase – with the Gulls well and truly outclassed and beaten to the tune of 161 runs.

A lack of regular contributions from the top order – excluding Elliott Lovejoy – have cost Warragul dearly this summer and against a disciplined Bulls attack there was little the batsmen could do to have an impact on the contest.

James McKellar (3-17), Dan Clebney (2-28) and Tyler Constantine (2-36) were on fire with the ball and the trio were able to exert enough control that Sam and Tyler McMillan weren’t called upon to send down a single delivery.

Adam Feltham was the pick of the batsmen for Warragul – making 32 in the middle order – but no other batsmen were able to make it past 13 as the pressure applied by the bowlers proved too much to overcome.

However, Warragul were able to tough it out for 44.2 overs before being dismissed for 123 – ensuring that there was no chance of Bunyip sending them back into bat for a second time.

Stags out-foxed

Hallora (198) def. Neerim District (148): In the lowest scoring match of the round in division two, Hallora were able to take out a 50-run win over Neerim District on the back of two sensational bowling efforts from Mark Phillips and Steven Fox.

Phillips – who dominated with the bat last week on his way to 86 proved to be nigh on unplayable with the new ball – keeping a consistent line and length and finding just enough movement to trouble the batsmen.

He snared 3-26 from 20-1 quality overs, with his haul of 11 maidens proving how difficult he was to get away.

Fox was equally parsimonious and finished with an impressive 4-35 from his 20 overs, and together with Phillips kept the scoring rate down and the fall of wickets regular.

Matt Kelliher (29) and Jason Skobla (20) did their best at the top of the order to try to kickstart the chase but the pressure proved too much for the Stags and after 64.1 overs they were bundled out for 148, well short of what was required to take home the points.
