Division 2

- By Sam Laffy

Garfield-Tynong (241) def. Western Park (218): Garfield-Tynong snatched one of the more unlikely victories seen this summer earlier in season 2016/17 against Western Park and the Titans kept their run of form against the Warriors going on Saturday, taking home a 23run win that keeps them well and truly in finals contention.

Matthew Wakefield was on fire early in the chase, striking a boundary-laden classy 83 but his exit from the contest – brought about by an early departure from the ground - saw the Titans back in the contest.

Alex Gavin (27) and the seemingly ageless Peter Croft (48) did their best to reignite the chase but the lower order couldn’t quite match their efforts with Jason Batson, Ken Lindsey and Kurtis Harper falling victim to some tight bowling from Matthew Maxwell and Cam Riley.

Peter Croft was the last to fall – caught off the bowling of Maxwell following an attempt to quickly breach the gap between the two teams – and Western Park found themselves bowled out for 218 in the 61st over.

The win sees the Titans move three points clear of the Warriors in the race for the finals.

Jindivick race to win

Jindivick (318) def. Drouin (208): Faced with a potentially challenging chase, Jindivick have made a mockery of Drouin’s first innings total – racing away to a 110-run win on the back of an early blitzkrieg from Clint Boswell and Jordan Smith.
