School journey begins
New preps on their first day of school at St Paul’s Anglican Grammar School, participated in the annual tradition of the ‘crossing of the hats’.
During orientation late last year, the preps were presented with a ‘almost a St Paul’s preppie’ hat and on the first day this year ‘almost’ was crossed out in recognition of now becoming a St Paul’s preppie.’
Throughout the week, a sea of yellow hats could be seen throughout the playground and the preps experienced many activities such as learning about the word ant, that not only included finding this on the THRASS chart and how to sing the song that goes with it, but also going outside in search of ants.
They also have been learning to match numbers and collections together, as well a new maths game ‘Race to 10.
But the highlight appeared to be catching up with their year five buddies who have been delegated the task of assisting the preps settle in with life at school.
The history of how Warragul’s beautiful Civic Park was created is the subject of a talk next Monday night.
Steph Wellard will speak on “The evolution of the Albert St park from the early days to the current Civic Park at Warragul.”
She will address the Warragul and District Historical Society, but interested members of the public are welcome to attend.
The meeting will be held at 7.30pm in the Old Shire Offices in Queen St.
Baw Baw Shire Council has hired consultants to look at future planning for the park and these have been on show to the public recently.
There have been many changes as the park has developed over the past 100 years.
Steph and her husband Rod retired to Warragul a few years ago and live in Mary St above the park.
Steph is interested in parks and gardens, having presented this talk to the University of the Third Age. She recently had a trip overseas studying how parks are designed and laid out.
