Buln Buln slump to loss

-

clash with Hallora with a comfortable 74-run win; the Hawks bowlers simply too good for their opponents.

Having posted 7-265 on day one of proceedings it was always going to be tough for the Kangaroos to chase down the runs, although the Halloran openers – James Vela and Fraser Duncan – were both capable of posting big scores.

However, no matter their mindset the pace and accuracy of Luke Radford proved too much for the top order to overcome – with four of the top five falling to the Englishman.

Vela has his stumps disturbed and was on his way for 10, Brett Williams departed without scoring, and the dangerous Ryan Williams was trapped leg before wicket for just three as Radford ramped up the pressure.

Only Duncan was able to resist the onslaught, and his knock of 58 was a sterling effort against some hostile bowling.

At the other end, Dale Weller bowled with tremendous accuracy in a marathon 29-over spell of bowling, and his pressure ensured a successful run-chase was never on the cards.

He finished with 3-64 while Radford’s return for the day was 5-32 as Hallora were restricted to 9-191.

Warriors survive scare

Western Park (160 and 5-160) def. Ellinbank (143):

Western Park survived a scare from Nicholas Fairbank to take home a 17-run win at the weekend, a result that seemingly guarantees them top spot on the table and a repeat encounter against Ellinbank looming come semi-final weekend.

Resuming at 4-60, the Bankers required another 101 runs to claim victory – and Sean Masterson and Brad Berry looked comfortable early in the piece.

They took the score through to 5-88 and would have begun to dream of victory, only for Sam Batson to turn their day into a nightmare.

Catching the edge of Berry’s bat to remove him for 37, the fiery quick trapped Alex Gaudion in front first ball, and finished off his first division one hat-trick by rattling the stumps of Aaron Thomas to have the scoreboard reading 9-96.

Seeming unperturbed however, Fairbank launched a counter-attack on the Western Park bowlers that carried Ellinbank to within striking distance of victory.

His unbeaten 46 saw his side through to 143 – but Batson ensured there would be no upset by breaching the defences of Will Robertson to finish with a stunning haul of 7-65.

Batting for a second time, Western Park finished at 5-160 with Sam Russell the pick of the batsmen with a fine half-century.
