Travel inspires

-

Travelling Australia has inspired Margaret Christianson’s varied solo art exhibition at Red Tree Gallery in Jindivick.

Metal, paint on canvas, works on paper and textiles are all included in the exhibition which is open for viewing until Tuesday, March 28.

Margaret has always produced lyrical and evocative line drawings and paintings. With a contemporary sensibility, playfulness and a desire to express serenity, the surfaces of her work are often layered with acrylic paint, fine art papers and found objects. These visions are now being translated into delightful whimsical metal plasma cut sculptures.

Her environment inspires artworks; both urban views and the majestic Australian landscapes explored on her travels with husband Ivan.

They have spent much of the last two years travelling around Australia. Margaret’s landscapes and birds are delightful with repetitive patterns reflecting the meditative nature of beautiful and typical landscape scenes.

Born in Brisbane, Margaret’s childhood was a montage of her Swedish heritage and the particular Australian urban culture of the 1960s. This still influences the works she produces.

A Melbourne resident, she completed a Bachelor of Education-Arts at Melbourne State College and launched into a career teaching in the arts. She worked with young people new to this country. Through art practices and language, Margaret helped enhanced their artistic imagination whilst developing their language skills.

Margaret has undertaken commissions, created murals for public spaces and curated exhibitions.

Red Tree Gallery is located at 420 Main Jindivick Road, Jindivick.
