Warragul & Drouin Gazette

Division 3

- By Sam Laffy

Yarragon (8-179) def. Western Park (90): With Drouin’s win ensuring that neither Yarragon nor Western Park could reach the finals – regardless of their result – the Panthers nonetheless emerged from their clash with an 89-run win on the back of some impressive top order batting.

Resuming at 0-22, Brock Glover (24) and Paul Harvey (45) quickly settled at the crease and they upped the soring rate early in the day.

Their opening stand of 83 well and truly put the contest beyond Western Park, and Adam Mazza’s belligerent half-century added to the agony for the Warriors bowlers.

Having past the required total the Panthers provided their youngsters with a hit-out, and the ball was thrown around to almost every Western Park player before Yarragon declared at 8179, bringing the game to an early close.

Travis Maher (2-4) and Al Hickman (2-13) were the most successful bowlers for Western Park.

Pullen denies outright

Ellinbank (9-242) def. Longwarry (68 and 7-176):

Having already secured first innings points last weekend, Ellinbank continued on their merry way against Longwarry for the early part of the day – as Daryl Hardy (41*) and Brad Berry (47*) quickly upped the scoring rate as the Bankers sought out an outright victory.

They eventually declared at 9-242 – with the last wicket partnership almost reaching 100 – before sending Longwarry back in to bat.

Their hopes of snaring the maximum points from the contest were harshly thrown back into reality by Sam Pullen though, with the talented Longwarry batsmen proving he is a class above all other bats in division three.
