Works a waste of money

-

Residents in Weirs Rd, Narracan have criticised money spent on the road in recent years and called on council to seal the road.

A petition, signed by 29 people, was recently presented to Baw Baw Shire

The residents said money spent on the road in February 2015 under the Roads to Recovery program was a “waste of taxpayers’ money.”

“At that time the surface was improved immensely and was made a good road to drive on. Unfortunately, the table drains were not done and the road surface was left extremely high into the drains in many instances.

“No maintenance has been undertaken on the road in the last two years, other than the occasional pot hole filled with incompatible material which washed out at the next rain event.

“Vegetation has grown up to the stage where table drains are not visible, creating potential life threatening hazards,” the petition said.

Council also was told the insides of corners, most of which are ‘blind’ corners are washed out and corrugated, forcing motorists to drive on the outside of bends.

“Some sections of the road are so corrugated that it is almost impossible to drive on the road without some kind of vehicle damage.”

The petition called on council to resurface Weirs Rd and have it sealed with bitumen.

Cr Peter Kostos said the condition of Weirs Rd had obviously deteriorated with increased traffic.

Cr Darren Wallace said a couple of dust suppression programs had been undertaken on the road but there were three distinct gravel sections that appeared to be suffering.
