Children will suffer with kindergarten cuts Out of depth

-

I'm writing this letter to make local people aware of the proposed changes to kindergarten hours as of next year.

The current agreement for 15 hours of funded kinder between the State and Federal Government ends in 2017, this means going forward kinder hours could be changed back to 10 hours.

This concerns me on a lot of levels and with three children, two currently at school and one at three-year-old kinder I wonder if her transition to school in 2019 will be as smooth and fluent as her older siblings.

Cutting five hours means she looses out and her social and emotional skills may not be as advanced, meaning she starts her prep year behind where she could and should be.

I urge all local residents to voice their concerns to local politicians and sign postcards at their local kinder which will be taken to future talks between educators and governments, to make sure 15 hours of funded kinder can continue for the benefit of our kids futures.

I took offence and know that others would have too, at the way Chris Samplawski (Gaz 28/2) oversimplified a belief system and then presented it as irrelevant.

His appeal to the gallery makes me think he is out of his depth. Robin Foley, Warragul election of council [vs councillors] in the Baw Baw Shire? Helen Case, Drouin
