Gordon Dadswell to lead U3A

-

A new committee was elected for the 2017/18 year at U3A Baw Baw’s annual general meeting.

Gordon Dadswell is the new president with Lorraine Benn secretary and Ron Collins treasurer.

The meeting was extremely well attended by current members of U3A Baw Baw and invited guests.

Outgoing president Mary Howlett gave a summary of the past year and activities.

She said social highlights included the Literary Lunch, Open Day and melodrama players enlivening the Christmas function.

A new sound system was also launched while members found new ways to “get our message out” about U3A and the variety of courses on offer and interests catered for in Baw Baw.

The meeting also featured an informative presentation by Latrobe University Professor Yvonne Wells, Head of the Lincoln Centre for Research on Ageing.

U3A Baw Baw has more than 150 members in West Gippsland who meet to participate in a diverse range of classes, activities and discussion groups.

Part of the Victorian network of U3A’s, the organisation is a volunteer learning cooperative of retired or semi-retired people who share many educational, creative, social and leisure activities.

Members are encouraged to share their life experiences, skills or knowledge with other members. Those who teach and those who learn are all members of U3A.

It’s a great way to build and share knowledge and form new friendships, especially relevant to retired or semi-retired people who are new to the area.

U3A is a worldwide movement and stands for “University of the Third Age” – the third age being that when people are able to pursue their own interests.
