Local author Dr Jim Connelly will speak on growing up in Garfield, at next Monday’s meeting of the Warragul and District Historical Society.

Dr Connelly, who is a member of the U3A and very active in the community, travelled daily from Garfield to Warragul High School.

He will talk of his experience­s and the routine of secondary school in the 1940s – an interestin­g period under the headmaster Doc Harris.

The meeting will begin at 7.30pm on Monday in the Old Shire Offices in Queen St. The historical society meetings are held on the last Monday of each month apart from January and December.

Guest speaker last month was Steph Wellard, who traced the history, beginning in 1898, of the Warragul public park, which began life as the Burke St Park before it was transferre­d to Albert St, where it evolved into Civic Place and then Civic Park.
