Family fun at Rumbug
More than 100 participants recently attended Interchange Gippsland’s annual family camp. which was held at Camp Rumbug, Foster.
The camp is designed for families caring for a child with a disability. It is a popular Interchange Gippsland program that sits under Connecting Families group of programs. It provides an opportunity for families to go away together for a fun weekend in a safe and supported environment.
Interchange Gippsland is a disability support organisation providing innovative support and services to people with disabilities living in Gippsland.
The camp is a highly sought after activbity. This year’s theme was an Aussie bush adventure, delivering a weekend full of fun and adventure and just the right amount of dirt.
Families were able to participate in a huge array of activities together including the flying fox, ropes course, mud run, aero ball, canoeing and raft building.
There also was plenty of down time to allow for families to mingle and get to know each other.
Interchange Gippsland chief executive Debbie Knight said the camp provided families with some time out to be themselves rediscover their identities and create social networks with other families.
“Importantly, it assists families to feel included and provides new and exciting social experiences, all which supports the entire family unit.”
Parents attending family camp said that the opportunity to have a weekend away with all of their children and mix with other families in similar situations was invaluable.
The camp is in its 21st year.
