Seabass retires

-

After 241 senior games over 17 years, Hill End stalwart and life member Simon Fiddelaers has decided to hang up his boots.

Although he has put in a full pre-season and had intended to play this year, Fiddelaers, 33, made the decision to retire last week after pulling up poorly following the practice match against Catani. He decided it was time. It’s a massive decision for Fiddelaers, nicknamed ‘Seabass’, who first started playing for Hill End Junior Football Club at age seven in the under 11s.

He went through the junior club and then on to fourths and thirds; backing up to play senior football as well as thirds most weeks from age 16.

Over the past 17 years, Fiddelaers has played 241 senior games and two reserve games for Hill End, mostly in the back line.

He was described by club president Simone Clymo as a past senior captain, committee member, lifemember, all-round huge contributor to the club, and genuine nice guy.

“On behalf of the board, committee, players, members and supporters of our club, we wish Simon all the very best in his retirement and thank him for his contribution over so many years,” Clymo said.

Fiddelaers will continue to be involved in Hill End football this year through Auskick as his daughter Emerson will take to the field for the first time.
