Colts hit season full of running

-

Warragul Colts will look to hit the 2017 season full of running following their first full pre-season.

About to embark on their second year of women’s football, the Colts have been training hard two nights each week and will enter the 2017 season the fittest that they have ever been.

With their season set down to begin on April 29, preparations will now step up with training to move to three nights per week and a pre-season camp scheduled at Mt Cannibal.

The team showed signs of beginning to gel towards the end of last season, winning three of its final six games under new coach Jason Mitchell.

Mitchell said he had high hopes for season 2017.

“If the new Gippsland league gets up, we’d be hoping for a top two finish,” he said.

Mitchell said the creation of the AFLW competition has also generated interest, with the club recruiting well.

American Bailey Hurtado has picked the game up quickly and could make an impact.

The Colts will look to its 2016 joint best and fairest winners Tarryn Orgill and Sarah Elson to again lead the way.

Tash Bennett topped the goal kicking last season and will be another player to watch, while Kylie Mann has been another handy acquisition who could have an impact across half forward.

The club welcomes prospective players for the season. Interested players can phone president Tony Linford on 0433 833 184 for details.
