Warragul Regional College - Passion Project
At Warragul Regional College we are working towards providing a more student centred learning experience across the school.
In 2017 we have introduced Passion Projects to our Year 9 program.
Passion Projects replace the previous elective program and enable students to focus on and take a deeper dive into areas of personal interest.
Students have chosen two Passion Project subjects for each semester and spend four hours a week in each of these classes.
Projects are grouped into areas such as dramatic arts, woodwork and oxywelding, sports (including basketball and mixed sports), visual arts (including art, photography and animation), computing (including coding and web design as well as building computer hardware), agriculture, medical science and more. The Duke of Ed program is also offered. Some students are doing a completely independent choice of Passion Project, with topics being studied ranging from languages such as Spanish, Japanese and Indonesian, psychology, wildlife rescue and writing a novel.
Developing a new way of learning has its challenges for both teachers and students, but we are genuine in our desire to make school a rewarding and relevant place for our students to thrive in.
Encouraging students to respectfully use their voice in the learning process along with treating our students as young adults, is already reaping rewards in our classrooms for staff and students.
Enquiries about the Passion Project can be directed to Naomi Coleman, Year 9 Learning Leader, at the college.
