Amazed by Joe Gauci’s opposition

-

Parkrun Warragul is part of a worldwide organisation that organises free weekly timed runs on a Saturday morning in pleasant park surroundings.

The runs are open to everyone, are free and are safe and easy to take part in.

Parkun encourages people of every ability to take part; from walkers or those taking their first steps in running to elite athletes; from juniors to those more mature participants. All are welcome.

We are proud and passionate participants in Parkrun and believe community connections are enhanced and Parkrun helps reduce the prevalence of chronic lifestyle related diseases.

Parkrun Warragul is run by a group of wonderful volunteers at Brooker Park at 8am on a Saturday, irrespective of weather conditions and generally attracts about 120 plus participants.

Brooker Park is a wonderful scenic venue however there are some limitations. The five kilometre course loops then doubles back on itself, making passing and overtaking other participants a little bit difficult at times. There are no toilet facilities available and there is only carparking in streets nearby.

There has been a concerted push by some in the community to extend Brooker Park, which has had some success.

Completion of the Brooker Linear park extension, addition of toilets and carparking facilities, perhaps near St Paul’s Anglican Grammar would be ideal.

We strongly advocate the support of these improvements for overall community good, by council, but wonder in amazement why mayor Joe Gauci has opposed many of these changes for greatly needed improvements in the past.

Ross and Diane Lawrence, Warragul
