GIPPSLAND INTER-LEAGUE SQUAD ALREADY TRAINING

-

Gippsland League’s inter-league coach Harmit Singh is confident of success when the side meets Yarra Valley in the Community Championship match at Woori Yallock on May 13.

After many of the initial 37-player squad chosen got together last Wednesday for the first time in the lead-up to the game Singh said he was pleased with the talent available in all areas of the team – defence, forward lines and midfield.

He said he was also looking at players, not in the squad at this stage, whose form warranted consideration.

The group will train again tomorrow and Tuesday of next week as well as Monday, May 8, and Thursday, May 11.

The final session will be followed by dinner and jumper presentations.

Singh said he was also aiming for the team to arrive and stay in the Yarra Valley on the night before the game.

Warragul’s Brad Scalzo, Nathan Paredes and Brayden Fowler along with Drouin’s Bob McCallum have been named in the squad.

Singh, a dual premiership coach at Morwell, has previously played for and coached the Gippsland side.

He currently works at Collingwood Football Club and coaches Vermont in the strong Division 1 of suburban Eastern Football League.

A training squad has also been announced for the Gippsland Under 18 side that will meet Yarra Valley in a curtain-raiser to the senior game.

Drouin and Warragul each have three representatives in the squad.

They are Cody Harrison, Robert Baker and Ryan Taylor from Drouin and Warragul’s Will Cole, Matthew Fox and Jedd Serong.

The side will again be coached by Kristian Gray of Leongatha.
