HAWK THIRDS IN TOP FORM TO TAKE POINTS

-

Four premiership points from a junior game at Sale don’t often come Drouin’s way but the Under 18 Hawks got them on Saturday.

They did it in style, too, kicking 13-12 to 4-3.

Tackling, skills, good ball handling and team work showed out as Drouin took charge from the start.

The side has some genuine pace that cut through the Magpies.

After a narrow round one loss Drouin built some importance confidence for games ahead.

They worked hard to build a handy 28-point lead at half time then went on with the job with five goals to one in the third quarter.

Coach Darcy Irwin and his team officials would have had a tough time picking the team’s award winners for the day.

They named the best as Cody Harrison who won a pile of possessions at all parts of the ground, ruckman Will Collins, Tyler Dodge-Bunn, Liam Gleeson, Jack Hallyburton and Kane Ward.

Trent Kearney, one of the smallest players on the ground and who’d earlier played in the Under 16s, gave the Hawks the start they needed kicking all three first quarter goals.

He continued to contribute to the team effort for four quarters.

Harrison, Sean O’Callaghan and Dodge-Bunn each got two goals and singles were kicked by Lennard Edwards-Hayes, Owen Walsh and Gleeson.

The Under 16s found the going a lot tougher. They went down 20-16 to 1-1. Best players were Christian Robertson-Edgar, Trent Kearney, Logan Corbet, Bailey Osseweyer and Darcy Durham.

Bryce Jeffrey-Molan kicked the goal.
