Buln on winners list

Buln Buln hit back from their opening round loss to finish up on the winners list, comfortabl­y accounting for Nyora 17-12 (114) to 9-7 (61).

Having built a 24-point lead at half time, the young Lyrebirds team fell away with the Saints winning the third quarter to keep in touch at the final change.

Buln Buln finished strongly, booting six goals in the final term while restrictin­g the Saints to one behind.

In pleasing signs for the Lyrebirds it was their younger players who stood up. Hayden Baker led the charge, booting six goals, while Jack Nuttall kicked four majors.

Darcy Brown, James Taylor, James Davidson and Trent Baker were other prominent players.

Ilan Osman kicked four goals for the Saints. Kallon Rigby, Tom Mayo, Sam Dixon, Sam Burns, Adam Tagliaferr­o and Aiden Cumberland were the better players for Nyora.

Lyrebirds hit straps

Buln Buln overcame a slow start to comfortabl­y win the Reserves 12-18 (90) to 6-6 (42).

The Lyrebirds went goalless in the first term to trail by 16 points, but then hit their straps to kick six goal in the second quarter to take the lead.

Buln Buln were never headed from there, kicking six goals to three in the second half.

Jack Martyn, Jack Symes, Mitchell Park, Dylan Kelly, Nicholas Castle and Billy Webster were named as Buln Buln’s best.

Alex Brown, Sam Hall, Dylan Anderson, Kyle Dorman, Jacob Lesjak and Hayden Watson were the better players for Nyora.
