Thorpdale triumph

-

Thorpdale’s resurgence continued, this time with a narrow win over rivals Trafalgar.

In a close contest throughout, the Blues held on to win 9-6 (60) to 8-8 (56).

A special Anzac ceremony set the tone for a thrilling match.

Rory Gilliatte kicked four goals in a best afield performance.

Corey Celima, Jake Atkinson, Nicholas Brown, Nick Fairbank and Marcus Brown also helped the Blues hold on.

Matthew Van Schajik kicked three goals for Trafalgar. Jace Butler, Daniel Puglia, Matthew Goodman, Hayden Farrell, Darcy Brock and Harrison Malady ensured the Bloods always threatened to take the game.

Panthers take upper hand

Hill End struggled through all four quarters in their game against Yarragon, going down 13-12 (90) to 6-8 (44).

It was a low scoring first half of the game for both sides but Yarragon just had the upper hand ending the second quarter 4-4 (28) to Hill End 3-6 (24),

Then Yarragon seemed to create more opportunities, had a blistering final quarter and didn’t let Hill End into the game much of the second half, coming out on top.

Close contest

It was a closely fought game in the first half between Morwell East and Newborough.

Morwell East looked like they might have the upper hand leading after the first quarter by a goal and three points.

Newborough had other ideas though and Mirboo North struggled to find the goal posts in the second quarter, putting Newborough in the lead 5-3 (33) to Morwell East 3-8 (26).

At the end of the day, Newborough were the better side and converted more of their opportunities in the second half, although Morwell East fought back hard at times.

Final score Newborough 11-7 (73) to Morwell East 7-11 (.53).

Demons no match

Mirboo North played a great game, not giving Boolarra too many opportunities and they never looked like getting in front.

Boolarra still continue to struggle to find their form and make it hard for themselves as they can’t seem to find their legs in the first half of the game, causing them to struggle from behind.

Mirboo North continued applying the pressure in the second quarter despite Boolarra kicking some much needed goals.

But, the end result saw Mirboo North come out on top 20-7 (127) to Boolarra 11-7 (73).

Mirboo North’s Jesse Giardina scored an impressive 10 goals during this game putting him at the top of the goal scoring leader board with 13.
