Charity golf boost for hospital

-

A recent charity golf day held at Warragul Country Club has been hailed a success, raising $25,500 for West Gippsland Hospital.

Local businesses generously supported the event, donating raffle prizes and covering the cost of printing raffle tickets to help the event take its total donation to the hospital over the past three years to $67,500.

Run under the auspice of the Warragul branch of the Bendigo Bank along with the Bunyip, Neerim, Drouin and Trafalgar branches of the Bendigo Community Bank, the Warragul Country Club women’s committee were also instrumental in the success of the event.

Twenty-nine teams took part in the event which included professionals teeing off for longest drive and putting for nearest the pin on the seventh hole upon receipt of donations. The event concluded with a sausage sizzle. Bendigo Bank Warragul branch manager Sharon Baptist said it was hoped that they could build on the success for the fourth annual event next year.

“It was a fabulous day, we had perfect weather,” she said. “Everyone dug deep.” Baptist said Jo Gaul had been instrumental in the success of the major raffle, which carried eight prizes.

“We’d be happy to go again next year with community support for raffle prizes,” she said.

Raffle winners were Derk Pol, Adele Eacott, Francis Jefford, Liz Rechsteiner, Lindy Watson, Nancy DeVries, Norm Burke and Judy Malady.
