Struggle for form

- By Paula Hopson

Hill End still struggle to find their form this season, with a defeat to Mirboo North on their home ground, 9-8 (62) to 6-7 (43).

It was a pretty low scoring game with Mirboo North taking the early lead in the first quarter 5-0 (30) to Hill End 2-3 (15).

The second quarter was a struggle to find the middle of the posts for both teams. Mirboo North had three shots on goal, resulting in three points, and Hill End having the same opportunities but managed to score one goal and two points.

A final spurt by Mirboo North in the last quarter saw the game close out.

Slow start for Panthers

It was a slow start for both sides in this round as Yarragon failed to score anything and Yallourn-Yallourn North only managing two goals and a point in the first quarter.

Yallourn-Yallourn North then came back very strong, showing why they are still contenders this season and making it hard work for the struggling Yarragon side to win 20-6 (126) to 5-7 (37).

By the end of the third quarter Yallourn-Yallourn North had created a 10 goal gap, a tough ask to catch up for Yarragon, only managing to score two goals in the last quarter to another seven for Yallourn-Yallourn North.

Dean McDonald scored five goals for Yallourn-Yallourn North and Tim Phillips and Dylan Bath with three apiece.

Yarragon are now sitting second bottom on the ladder.

Hungry Hawks

Thorpdale struggled at home this week against Morwell East who were obviously hungry for a win.

Morwell East came out on top during all four quarters of the game, with Thorpdale chasing points all day to go down 13-5 (83) to 7-11 (53), Thorpdale certainly not looking as strong as they did last week.

The game could have been within Thorpdale’s reach at half time with the scores Morwell East 7-3. (45) to 3-5 (23), but Morwell East stretched their lead in the third quarter, scoring four more goals to Thorpdale’s one.

Bloods on top

A win for Trafalgar this week against bottom of the ladder Boolara has seen them jump to the top of ladder after Yinnar’s first defeat of the season against Newborough.

Boolara continued with their poor form in this round, still struggling to gain a win this season with four defeats in a row, going down to the Bloods 2115 (141) to 7-2 (44).

Trafalgar showing some great skills throughout the game and a team proving that they are still a team to watch despite Boolara giving them a relatively easy win.
