Panthers take it up to Bulldogs

-

Yarragon really made reigning premier’s Newborough work for their win in a thriller game, the Bulldogs holding on 6-11 (47) to 6-4 (40).

It was hard to judge who would make the break in this low scoring and hard fought match up.

Newborough found themselves down a goal and two points at the end of the first quarter but Yarragon only marginally edged out in front as scores ended Yarragon 2-3 (15) to Newborough 1-1 (7).

The scores evened out at the end of the second quarter, 3-4 (22) to both teams and with only one goal scored by both teams, Newborough took the lead with three single points.

With everything to play for in the fourth quarter, both teams once again were on even goals but Newborough had more chances up front and the single points gave them the victory.

Hillmen struggle

It was another struggle for Hill End who could not stand up to the forward pressure from Trafalgar, going down 1011 (71) to 2-4 (16).

The Bloods were on top throughout the game and Matthew Van Schajik was on fire in this round, scoring seven of the 10 goals for Trafalgar, putting him top of the goal scoring leader board with 24 for the season so far.

Although Trafalgar were playing against a side struggling to find some form, they played a great game with the win placing them at the top of the leader at the end of the fifth round.

Magpies hold on

It looked like Yinnar would take out the victory over Morwell East as they were out in front after all three quarters.

Heading into the fourth quarter the scores saw Yinnar at 7-5 (47) to Morwell East 4-9 (33).

A thrilling last quarter looked like Morwell East could have made up the gap and then some as Yinnar failed to score a goal and only put the ball through the posts for two points.

Morwell East managed to score one goal and had six chances to convert but it just wasn’t their day. Scores at the final whistle were Yinnar 7-7 (49) to Morwell 5-15 (45).

Bombers come out on top

This was a game that could have gone either way, but Yallourn-Yallourn North kept up the pressure as the away team and came out on top in each of the four quarters to win 11-9 (75) to 7-9 (51).

Mirboo North let Yallourn-Yallourn North get in front in the first quarter and then it was difficult for them to make up the gap.

Each quarter both teams worked hard and kept up the pressure but at the end of the game Yallourn/Yallourn North came out on top.
