Juniors step up for Drouin

-

They worked hard to peg back the score, only being down by two goals at three-quarter time. However, the girls were unable to run it out.

Defenders Natalie Sloan and Ali McArthur worked tirelessly all game. They worked well with Deb Thomas in wing defence for her first game back in B grade. Awards: Kelly Hedley and Deb Thomas. C grade: Drouin 21 lost to Moe 36. Drouin had a great first half. When you’ve got a team of defenders; it is to be expected but the defensive pressure down the court was great.

Lia Olsen as goal keeper was brilliant as always, creating turnover after turnover.

Emily Bethune showed versatility, going from goal attack to centre and even wing attack; creating plenty of movement and drive down the court.

The team welcomed back Tasha Kimber who played her first game in goal attack. Awards: Lia Olsen and Emily Bethune. Under 17s: Drouin 39 defeated Moe 24. When a team puts into practice what they’ve been working on at training, you know you’re in for a good game.

After working solidly on one-on-one from one end of the court to another, it was fantastic to see this. Furthermore, patience and ball movement in the attack end was seamless with all combinations.

The dynamic defence combination of Lateisha Edwards and Chelsea DeRiter took the pressure off the Hawkers. They intercepted passes, held up players and rebounded like champs.

Awards: Chelsea DeRiter and Edwards. Under 15s: Drouin 42 defeated Moe 30. A fantastic game by the U15s who were consistent and relentless, no matter what combination was on court.

It was their best game yet and all players played extremely well.

The girls also implemented their systems beautifully, drove hard in attack and then finished it off with good decision making on court. Up the attack end, the ball movement and accuracy from the goalers was the icing on the cake.

Awards: Sabine Newcombe.

Under 13s: Drouin 2 lost to Moe 46. Leishout and Lateisha Macy

Learning netball is what some of these girls are doing, and they’re doing it better each week.

Lucy McKellar moved from goal defence to centre in the fourth quarter and exhibited some beautiful passages of play. In the attack end, Matilda Carroll shot two clean goals; working well with Maya Cooper.

In the defence end, Lainy Trickey did a good job being moved into goal keeper, alongside Tess Mapleson.

Awards: Maya Cooper, Tess Mapleson and Montana Lewis.
