Windy round meets juniors

A windy round three met players of the Warragul and District Junior Football League as teams struggled against the blustery conditions to get points on the board.

Warranor played their first home game on their new ground at Logan Park to the delight of onlookers.

Teams will be looking to continue their improvemen­t into the season this week..

Under 14

Bunyip kicked with the wind in the first, Neerim managing to handle a lot of the ball.

Bunyip slowly got going and built a hefty lead.

Neerim District responded in the final quarter, getting a point on the board, but it was too late to salvage the game with their undermanne­d side going down.

Scores were close all game in this match-up between the Jets and the Colts.

Great tackling by the Jets saw them prevail over the Colts, despite an extremely close scoreline.

The last few minutes were tension packed, the ball spending most of the time in Warragul's forward fifty.

Garfield started well in the first quarter and were too strong for Ellinbank.

Ellinbank put pressure on in the second half to restrict Garfield's scoring and scored goals of their own in the third and last quarter.

Garfield hung on to take the game under very strong opposition.

A great playing surface set the scene for a fast flowing game, allowing the Blues to set the pace coming away with a strong lead by half time.

Hallora lifted their performanc­e early in the third quarter, but the Blues worked hard to reassert their dominance and took the win.

Warranor came out strong, but the Cobras held well in defence making the Warragul side fight for every inch.

The two teams played out a quality game of football, the Cobras coming away with a well deserved win.

Both teams were out of the gates fast, playing a very competitiv­e brand of football.

It was a fantastic match in the end, a young Caldermead­e Cannons side just barely edged out by the Longwarry Crows with a margin of under two goals.

Under 12

It was a tough battle for the two sides, the Bulls showing some great fight early on, getting the goals flowing.

Yarragon plugged up their defence in the second half and managed to snag a goal of their own, going down by just five points in the end.

A solid team effort from Longwarry saw great passages of play across the field.

Caldermead­e managed to get into the game during the second quarter.

The Crows were too good on the day and won the game.

Garfield scored easy goals in the first quarter, Ellinbank got back into the game with some hard tackling and gained possession.

Garfield's good hands were able to continue to work the ball well down the ground, and consolidat­ed their lead to take the game.

The Blues took on a gallant Hallora side. Both teams were tackling well, the Warragul side strong in front of goals.

The Blues managed to accumulate a solid lead, Hallora kept taking it to the leaders but couldn't take the win.

Warranor's first home game at Logan Park saw a fierce clash with the Drouin Cobras.

Warranor through fantastic pressure and intensity were able to turn the game around and win even though the Cobras were very competitiv­e.

The Bunyip side were too strong on the day and took the game against Neerim. Tahj Murphy celebrated 50 games. Jets were too strong in second half, which won them the game over Colts.

Under 10

The first quarter saw the only scoring, leading to a tightly fought contest for the rest of the match which saw the Bulls win over Yarragon with their early points.

Longwarry came away with the win over Caldermead­e in the end.

Garfield played out the match, going down to a stronger Ellinbank side.

Hallora kept the Warragul side accountabl­e for each point, even though the Blues took the win.

Warranor finished the game with a two goal final quarter which sealed them the win over the Cobras.

The second half was extremely tight, the Cats scored a goal in the last minute of the game to go down by just two points.

The Colts rallied and had a few chances to score a goal, but the Jets kept applying the right kind of pressure and took down the Warragul team on the day.
