Round one of the Youth Girls started on Sunday, with the Colts playing new team Trafalgar at Eastern Park.

Heavy rain prior to the game made conditions wet and little muddy for the match, but the sun was out for the duration of the game.

This didn’t prevent a large crowd from turning up the game to watch the girls hit it out for their first game.

Trafalgar started the game well being able to push the ball down forward numerous times with an early goal of the match, which boosted their confidence and gave them another two goals by quarter time.

The second quarter was a different story with the Colts girls coming out firing, some tough footy to get the ball out of the packs and the Colts eventually being rewarded with two goals of their own and making the game a close one.

The second half of the match was going to be a tough game of footy, with some very hard tackles and skilful ball movement but it was Trafalgar that was able to maintain the lead at three quarter time.

The Colts pushed hard in the final term and a snap from Hayley De Graaf saw the Colts come within a few points, but a determined Trafalgar were just too good on the day, winning by nine points.

Final score - Colts 4-1 (25) to Trafalgar 5-4 (34)

Goals - Hayley de Graaf, Emily Hobbs, Leesa Guastella and Scarlett Wells one goal each.

Best - Shayleen Taylor, Channen Dare, Scarlett Wells, Lainey Symes, Tyra White and Roshaun Watson.

Meanwhile, the Colts senior women travelled to Karingal for their round one match.

After a long pre-season the girls were keen to get into the action and play some tough style footy and they were not disappointed.

The Colts maintained the pressure for three quarters, booting five goals and leaving Karingal scoreless.

Some fantastic skill displayed by the Colts and two goals by Winnie Thomas gave the Colts a winning margin.

A fantastic effort by American import Baylee Hurtado, being able to put some pressure on the opposition, but overall a great team effort gave the Colts a win for the first game of the year.

Final Score – Karingal 1-1 (7) to Colts 5-10 (40)

Goals – W Thomas 2, S Elson, J Kaminaris, N Cocker one goal each

Best - W Cumberland, J Nadzielski, S Elson, S Poke, L Patten, T Orgill
