A new chief executive officer may be appointed to Baw Baw Shire by early July.

Applications have closed for the position, left vacant by Helen Anstis who resigned in January.

Council’s community assets director Phil Cantillon was appointed interim chief executive officer in February to lead council until the new appointment.

Mr Cantillon said applications closed on May 12. He said the next step in the process involved shortlisting potential candidates, facilitating interviews and testing which was expected to be concluded by early July.

When Ms Anstis resigned in January, mayor Joe Gauci said council was determined to take its time to find the best person to take on the role.

Council also has advertised for a corporate and community service director.

From p1 The director’s position has been vacant since Liana Thompson left the position last year.

Finance manager Malcolm Lewis took on the acting director’s role.

Cr Gauci previously indicated the vacant director’s position would be reviewed later in the year after a new ceo was appointed.

But, Mr Cantillon said the acting position for the director’s role was due to expire on August 31.

He said in accordance with Local Government Act requirements, council had advertised the position. Applications will be open for a few weeks.

Mr Cantillon said the new director would be appointed by mid-July to August. He said Mr Lewis would remain in the position as an acting director until the appointment.

Council has engaged recruitment agency Davidson Executive Recruitment to coordinate the appointment of both the new ceo and director.

The cost to appoint a new ceo will be $35,000.
