Popular playground closes for facelift
The playground in Warragul’s Civic Park has closed this week as part of a major upgrade.
Shortly after adopting a master plan for Warragul and Drouin Civic Parks, council is proceeding with works to upgrade the playground as part of the current capital works program.
The works are expected to be completed by the end of September when a new playground will be offered to park users.
As part of the works, two Desert Ash trees will be removed for public safety.
The trees were assessed by council’s arborist and determined to have an average to poor health condition and classed as high risk.
Master plans for future development and management of Warragul and Drouin’s Civic Parks were adopted by council last month.
The plans identify potential open space upgrades, such as planting, access and park infrastructure, as well as aspects of the parks that should be preserved and enhanced, including historical plantings, environmental, cultural and heritage values and well-utilised infrastructure and facilities.
The plans also provide guidance for addressing problematic issues identified in each park, such as drainage, lack of infrastructure including seating and signage, high risk trees, lack of shade along paths and lack of accessibility in some parts of the parks.
The key projects for Warragul Civic Park include: enhanced Albert St forecourt; central picnic area; additional planting around Presence of Giants artwork; pond plantings; and a garden playground to stimulate connection between play and nature.
