Making a difference

-

Holidays can be memorable and for some they can be lifechanging.. On a trip to Vanuatu, Nancy Humphrey visited many villages and realised that the children didn’t have the school items that children in Australia have in abundance.

She purchased colouring pencils to be taken to schools and on arriving home, decided that pencil cases were needed, plus school bags.

Nancy, a member of Warragul CWA, has just completed sewing 60 school bags with matching pencil cases. Her fellow CWA members have packed the bags with school items such as rulers, coloured pencils, biros, sharpeners and exercise books.

The SamaSama Rainbow School is situated in the Erakor Village, Port Vila - the capital of Vanuatu.

The primary school is a two room concrete building and it became a shelter for 30 families during Cyclone Pam which occurred in 2015. The cyclone caused immeasurable damage including the loss of schools and medical facilities.

Warragul Rotary Club and the Uniting Church Warragul have combined to send a shipping container to Vanuatu later this month with medical and educational supplies, toys, gardening tools, linen and household goods.

Nancy’s work and the CWA’s support, highlights that there are so many worthwhile projects that make a world of difference.
