Heartbreak for Longwarry

-

Longwarry suffered its second heart-breaking loss of the season, falling to Ellinbank by one-point following the final kick of the day, 11-10 (76) to 11-9 (75).

Having been awarded a free kick while trailing by just two points deep into the final term, all at the Longwarry Recreation Reserve collectively held their breath as the siren sounded with the shot on goal in transit.

Unfortunately for the Crows, the ball sailed over the behind post, handing them their second close loss of the season.

It was positive signs for the Crows, who matched it with the unbeaten Ellinbank throughout the contest.

While the Eagles had been dominant in previous matches, the Crows made them work for the win and nearly stole it from them.

The lead changed several times throughout the contest, with the Crows holding a nine-point advantage heading into the final change of ends.

The Eagles were quick to regain the lead, but the Crows weren’t done with and kept pushing right until the breathtaking final kick of the day.

Shaun Phelan kicked four goals for Ellinbank, while Longwarry coach Daniel Fry matched his output for the Crows.

Ben Wragg, Andrew Quirk, Daniel Barrand, Tim Mashado and Toby Wallace helped Ellinbank hold on.

Ben Cuckson, Paul Williams, Ken Towt, Nathan Fry and Rick Salce kept pushing until the final siren for the Crows.
