Warragul pair take doubles
There was an excellent standard of play in the recent golf croquet handicap doubles tournament held at the Drouin club.
Club president and tournament manager Heather Bullen welcomed players from near and afar with the following clubs represented: Essendon, Brunswick Mallet Sports, Bairnsdale, Lilydale, Rosebud Village Glen, Morwell, Traralgon, Wonthaggi, Frankston, Mornington, Warragul, Maffra and Korumburra.
At the end of day one, division one had three pairs having won three of their four games, including Kool and Cartwright of Wonthaggi (+5), Haroowfield and Rowe of Essendon (+3) and Marriott and Lees of Warragul (+2).
Division two also had three pairs with three wins: Walker/Lang (Warragul) +8, Hempberger/Millington (Traralgon) +5, Bradbury/Bradbury (Maffra) +5.
At the completion of play on day two, division one Essnedon pair Brian Rowe and Ian Harrowfield had gone on to win two of their three games to be outright winners with six wins, +12 hoops.
The Wonthaggi pairing of Gerry Kool and Sue Cartwright were runners up with four wins, -1 hoops.
In division two, Warragul and Traralgon pairs won two of their three matches on the Sunday, each pair winning five games overall.
However the Warragul team of Colin Walker and Barry Lang took the honours with five wins, +11 hoops to Traralgon’s Shirley Hempeberger and Greg Millington with five wins, +8 hoops.
At the close of the tournament, sponsors were thanked by the club and participating players, along with all Drouin members who had worked hard preparing the greens, morning and afternoon teas and light lunch.
Members are invited to complete their club championship rounds by scheduled dates.
Nominations are now being taken for executive positions for the annual general meeting, which is scheduled for June 24 at 11am.
Names are also required for Gippsland Croquet Association presentation day on June 26.
